Politoskaya’s Murderer Caught Comments Off

Posted on August 30, 2011 by Sharon K. Gilbert

Anna Politkovskaya - Russian Federation (1958 - 2006)

The curious tale of Russian intrigues, journalists, spies, and assassinations continues as Russian authorities announce that they’v nabbed the blighter who killed much-loved and very anti-Putin writer Anna Politovskaya.

For those of you who are now scratching your head trying to recollect just who Anna what’s her name is, or was, here’s a short refresher. Politkovskaya (whose name always reminds me of the Lon Cheney, Jr’s gypsy mother in many of the old Wolfman films (Maria Ouspenskaya) spent most of her life tilting at the windmill of the everpresent USSR. The feisty journalist dared take on Vlad Putin’s restrictive measures, and she even questioned the Chechen war and documented human rights abuses, winning numerous awards for her efforts and garnering a wide fan base within the Russian people.

Politokoskaya’s life and death are intertwined with that of Alexander Litvenenko, another ‘assassination victim’. If that name also rings a bell, it’s because Litvenenko, a former FSB agent and friend to wealthy oligarch Boris Berezovsky. Berezovsky had a curious relationship to Litvenenko, you might even say he owed the spy his life.

According to a November 2006 article at The Independent,

…the oligarch enjoyed a uniquely symbiotic relationship with Litvinenko, which began when the spy saved his life. Litvinenko, so the story goes, refused orders from his then employer, Russia’s internal security service (FSB), to have Berezovsky murdered. Berezovsky returned the favour by assisting Litvinenko to defect to Britain when he was charged by the Russian authorities with treason.

Today, Anna’s ‘murderer’ has been caught. Litvenenko’s polonium poisoning is still a mystery, and Berezovsky still lives the high life in London, and is rumored to be one of the owners of the troubled Manchester football team player, Carlos Tavez.

BTW, Anna was killed on October 7th, Putin’s birthday. Do you suppose he thinks about her as he’s cutting into his cake?

WHILE the US media hold their collective breath awaiting Vice Presidential revelations from Obama and McCain, a strategic meeting is taking place in the resort town of Sochi, Russia.

This bustling vacation spot lies nestled against the majestic Caucasus Mountains, and serves as an important Russian access point to the Black Sea. Ironically, Sochi was once called the Kingdom of Egrisi and formed the western rank of ancient Georgia. Ceded to Russia following the Crimean War, Sochi grew prominent as a resort town during the reign of Joseph Stalin, who built a second home, or dacha, there. Vladimir Putin continued in Stalin’s tradition, at least where Sochi is concerned, investing large sums to modernize the city. Olympics fans may find the name ‘Sochi’ ringing bells. The sprawling resort has been named host city for the 2014 Winter Games.

So, why would such a beautiful, harmless city be at the center of geopolitics?

Real Life Game of Risk: Is Putin Setting Up the Board to Invade Israel? Comments Off

IT’S ALL ABOUT POWER, and it’s all about to escalate. The spiritual entities that lie behind every world leader are waging a war for control — a war against the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ. The ultimate prize in this continuing war is Israel, God’s chosen nation.

Students of Biblical prophecy will recognize the phrase Gog and Magog War, and I’d dare say at this point, many non-scholars will as well. As the war in Georgia leads into its fifth official day of fighting, I can’t help seeing a terrifying alignment of military incursions with one final goal: Invasion of Israel.

The Proxy War: Georgia vs. Russia Comments Off

CABLE NEWS viewers woke this morning to startling news out of Georgia (the country, not the state). Apparently, overnight, and out of the clear blue sky, war had broken out between Georgia and Russia over a region called South Ossetia. What I find most startling isn’t that fighting broke out (primarily because fighting has been ongoing for years, though on a smaller scale), but that cable news ‘talking heads’ appear to have just now noticed.

Following the break-up of the former Soviet Union, satellite countries scrambled to declare borders and pick sides. In the case of Georgia, the northernmost region borders Russia. North Ossetia is not in dispute, as Russia annexed it some time ago. However, the southern half of Ossetia is claimed by Georgia (supported by NATO and the UN), despite the fact that South Ossetians consider themselves independent.

South Ossetia (formerly the South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast — say that ten times fast), is an ethnic region where the locals speak Ossetian not Georgian, and are predominantly Christian.
