This was the second quake to hit Chile during the past weekend. Residents of the South American country suffered through a 5.1 followed by the 7.2 last night. Sometimes, these reports contain numbers that catch our attention, as if we’re being poked in our collectives ‘eye’. The ’133′ number, for instance. It contains ’13′ and ’33′. It may mean nothing, but we can’t help ‘seeing’ it.

SAN JOSE MINE, Chile (AP) — Sixty-six agonizing days after their gold and copper mine collapsed above them, 33 miners were offered a way out Saturday as a drill broke through to their underground purgatory.

Word of the drill’s success prompted cheers, tears and the ringing of bells by families in the tent camp outside the mine. Some who have kept a vigil since the Aug. 5 disaster ran up a hill where 33 Chilean flags were planted, chanting and shouting with joy as a siren rang throughout “Camp Hope,” confirming the breakthrough.

(NY POST) — The man suspected of a spree of stabbing attacks across three U.S. states was Friday facing an extradition hearing ahead of being transferred to Michigan from Atlanta.

Michigan State Police said Elias Abuelazam may choose to fight being moved across state lines at his hearing set for 11:00am EST, which would delay his being charged with additional crimes in Michigan for a few days to a few weeks, according to Fox News Channel.

Reports Thursday said police had chartered a plane to bring Abuelazam to Michigan, but state officers — without the suspect — headed back up north in the plane around 2:00am local time Friday.

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama has postponed his trip to Asia until June so he can stay in Washington for a possible Sunday vote on his health care overhaul plan.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Thursday the president is disappointed and regrets having to delay his visits to Indonesia and Australia but has told the leaders of those nations that health care is a crucial priority.

“The president believes right now the place for him to be is in Washington seeing this through,” Gibbs said.

PID COMMENT: Of course, this has nothing at all to do with the protests against Obama currently taking place in Indonesia (one of his destinations during the ‘canceled’ trip), right?  Note, too, that the ‘Slaughter Rule vote’  (named for House Rules Committee Chairwoman Slaughter) is scheduled for this weekend, coinciding with the Vernal Equinox. (BTW, the attack on Iraq began on March 20–the vernal equinox 2003).
