October surprise: US and Israel prepare to strike Iran | RT Comments Off

Posted on October 09, 2012 by Sharon K. Gilbert

RT reports that this apparent turn-around in public US policy comes on the heels of an Iranian cameraman’s defection. The cameraman is said to have been filming Ahmadinejad’s visit to New York when he chose to defect. The footage he gave to US operatives seems to be at the heart of the decision to cooperate with Israel.

Only time will tell whether or not any of this is true, but an Iranian incident could be the ‘surprise’ that Obama needs to clinch the election.

Considering the chaos in Syria and the cross-border skirmishes between that country and neighboring Turkey, Israel has to be ever vigilant. Remember, too, that Iran now claims to have a drone capable of reaching Israel.

Archaeologists Explore Two Mysterious Caves Near the Dead Sea | Popular Archaeology Comments Off

Posted on October 05, 2012 by Sharon K. Gilbert

This is a fascinating article about Dr. Haim Cohen, a Jewish Indiana Jones who may have found a very important, ritual site in the desert just above the Dead Sea. Coins found in the cave were coined in around 67 AD. Cohen believes priests may have used the pool at the entrance to the cave for ritual cleansing before touching a ‘sacred’ object or objects. Cohen believes he might find such sacred items in Cave 27.

Take the time to read the article–it’s the next best thing to accompanying Cohen on the dig!

Thousands of Christians march in Jerusalem in show of support for Israel | The Washington Post Comments Off

Posted on October 05, 2012 by Sharon K. Gilbert

This is an excellent article in many ways, but primarily because the writer warns of a smoldering tension between Christians and Jews in Israel. It’s understandable that locals might be wary of flocks of Christians descending upon their beloved cities during high holy seasons–that they might consider our motives less than pure.

It’s also clear from the article that ‘evangelical’ is becoming a dirty word in many circles. The truth is ‘evangelical Christian’ should be a redundant term. As Christians, we are commanded to spread Christ’s gospel–to our neighbors, to our cities, to the world. And, yes, we believe that Jesus Christ will return to Jerusalem to reign as King of Kings. Do we go to Israel with ulterior motives–with plans to proselytize everyone we meet? Probably not. We go because we have a deep connection with the land and with the people.

The Lord Himself has a plan to turn Israel back to Him. He will open their eyes to the truth that they missed their Messiah two thousand years ago. And when that happens, the Jewish people will weep great tears and seek salvation through the blood of the Lamb.

In the meantime, let us try to show the love and compassion that Christ taught us. Will it make the world love us, if we do? Probably not.

Navy prepares to intercept Gaza Ship – JPost Comments Off

Posted on October 04, 2012 by Sharon K. Gilbert

This continued story gets little notice in the MSM these days. In the early days of the blockade, we saw items almost daily, but the current election cycle is using up all the internet ‘air’.

This particular ‘flotilla’ includes as a passenger anti-Israeli activist Dror Feiler, who (the Post reports) has lived in Sweden for some 40 years and has praised Palestinian suicide bombers. Feller was also a passenger on the Mavi Marmara in 2010, when the Turkish ship was boarded by Israeli commandos, killing nine passengers after coming under attack. Perhaps Feller is hoping for a repeat of that 2010 horror story–let’s pray it doesn’t, eh?
