Gingrich takes a step closer to presidential bid Comments Off

Posted on March 05, 2011 by Derek Gilbert

(MODESTO BEE) — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told reporters in Atlanta on Thursday afternoon that he had set up a website to promote a possible presidential candidacy, making his most public move yet toward a 2012 White House bid.

Gingrich has made a particular effort in Iowa and other states to meet with evangelical pastors, hoping to overcome ambivalence among religious conservatives about his two divorces and win over a key Republican constituency.

Gingrich has at least two trips coming up in Iowa; at both, he will speak to conservative Christian audiences. After speaking at the “Rediscovering God in America” event in Des Moines in late March, Gingrich is expected to travel to San Antonio, where he will speak at the [John Hagee's] Cornerstone Church, which has a congregation of 19,000.

Beck talks faith in rally coinciding with anniversary of King’s speech Comments Off

Posted on August 28, 2010 by Derek Gilbert

Is there any question now about the spiritual nature of Glenn Beck’s mission to save America? While that’s not a bad thing in and of itself, we Christians must recognize that Beck, if he believes the teachings of his Mormon faith, worships a different God. — PID

(CNN) — Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck opened his controversial “Restoring Honor” rally Saturday by urging Americans to “turn back to God” and return the nation to the values on which it was founded.

“Something beyond imagination is happening,” he told the large crowds gathered at the National Mall in Washington. “America today begins to turn back to God. For too long, this country has wandered in darkness.”

In a speech Friday night, Beck said he feels like “God dropped a giant sandbag on my head. My role is to wake America up onto the backsliding of principles and values most importantly of God. We are a country of God.”

Gingrich Says He’s Considering a Presidential Run Comments Off

Posted on July 12, 2010 by Derek Gilbert

(ABC NEWS) — Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Monday he’s seriously considering seeking the Republican presidential nomination and will announce his decision early next year.

Gingrich, 67, told The Associated Press that he would focus on helping Republican candidates through the midterm elections in November, then decide in February or March whether to seek the GOP nomination.

Remember that Gincrich tapped Dr. Jim Garlow, who openly supports the 7 Mountain Mandate (i.e., the Dominionist doctrine that Christians must take over the “seven mountains of culture” so Jesus can return), as Chairman of his Renewing American Leadership organization.

Pentecostal Pastor Meets With President Obama to Discuss Immigration Reform Comments Off

Posted on July 01, 2010 by Derek Gilbert

(CHARISMA) — Pentecostal pastor Samuel Rodriguez said Hispanic leaders who met with President Obama this week to discuss immigration reform left “re-energized” by his commitment to address the controversial topic this year.

“We walked out of the meeting revitalized to a degree, re-energized, understanding that this president will not surrender the issue of immigration reform for the sake of political expediency,” said Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference NHCLC, a network of 25,000 congregations representing 16 million people.

Rodriguez, a California-based Assemblies of God minister, was the only evangelical at the president’s meeting Monday with leaders of some of the nation’s largest Hispanic activist and labor organizations, including the Service Employees International Union, the National Council of La Raza and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson, Ariz.

As of November 2009, Rodriguez is an apostle under the headship of C. Peter Wagner and the International Coalition of Apostles, and he’s the vice-president of The Oak Initiative, super-apostle Rick Joyner’s political action committee.

Fellow Oak Initiative board membert LtGen. (Ret.) Jerry Boykin had been invited to testify at the confirmation hearing of Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, although that invitation has been withdrawn. Still, the rise of the apostles continues–using both the political left and right. — PID
